Mary Patricia Kruse, 65, of Waimea died Nov. 23 at home. Born in Portland, Ore., she was a retired medical office manager and patient care coordinator. Private service at a later date. Survived by companion, Michael Pierce of Waimea; father, Robert Kruse of San Diego; daughters, Helen Kruse of San Diego, Jean (David) Olmos of Honolulu and Robin (Choya) Aweau of North Kohala; brother, Dan (Grace) Kruse of Anchorage, Alaska; nieces and nephews. Marianna M. Soares, 79, of Hilo died Nov. 28 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired A-Plus worker for Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 7) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by husband, Manuel “Manny” Soares Jr. of Hilo; sons, David (Jenna) Oliveira, Daniel Oliveira and Antone (Candice Mullins) Oliveira of Papaikou; brother, John Basque of Kona; sisters, Isabel (Ben) DeFatta of Los Angeles, Anita (Clement) Andrade of Volcano, Frances (Arthur) Medeiros of Hilo and Rita (Arnold) Lovato of Los Angeles; sister-in-law, Grace Basque of Kona; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty Jo (Hubbard) Thompson, 86, of Kennett Square, Pa., formerly of Hilo, died Nov. 27 at home. Born in Dill City, Okla., she was a retired extension home economist for the University of Hawaii at Manoa, former home service director for Hawaii Electric Light Co., member of Zonta Club of Hilo and Zonta International, national extension organizations, Piihonua Kumiai, volunteer for many community service organizations and Oklahoma State University alumna. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association Aloha Chapter, 1005 Kinoole St. No. 103, Hospice of Hilo, 1011 Waianuenue Ave., or Hawaii Island Adult Care, 34 Rainbow Drive. Survived by daughters, Veda Villanueva of Keaau and Mari (Arthur) Jensen of Glen Mills, Pa., two grandsons; nieces, nephews and cousins. Arrangements by Rigby, Harting and Hagan Funeral Home.
